About Rocky Hill, CT - Happy to be your hometown Heating & Air Conditioning Contractor!
Located along the majestic Connecticut River, in the progressive Hartford County, Rocky Hill is a typical bedroom suburb with a small town charm. Rocky Hill used to be a part of Wethersfield. After residents of the town were given permission to have their own church, the area acquired the name Stepney Parish, in 1722. In 1843, it achieved its separate town status and became Rocky Hill, named after a ridge in the northeast section. The ridge and the area around it are now referred to as Rocky Hill Quarry Park.
Honored as Connecticut’s Premier Sportstown in 2003 by Sports Illustrated, Rocky Hill has been consistent in its involvement in organizing sports for all ages and abilities and in providing excellent sports facilities. In 2007, the town made Money Magazine’s list of “Top 100 Best Places to Live,” citing local employment availability, high quality schools, close proximity to Hartford and short commute to New York and Boston as some of the reasons.
Rocky Hill is home to the North America’s largest dinosaur track sites, Dinosaur State Park. The attraction boasts of Jurassic fossil footprints from 200 million years ago. Other places of interests are The Academy Hall, a museum ran by the Rocky Hill Historical Society and The Rocky Hill – Glastonbury Ferry, nation’s oldest continuously running ferry service.
Rocky Hill lies in the humid continental climate characterized by significant differences in seasonal temperatures. Residents enjoy warm to hot (and at times humid) summer and cold winters. At the height of winter, snowfall is more common than rain. This provides a perfect stage for fun winter activities. Like other parts of New England, autumn in Rocky Hill is a must see. The town’s warmest month is July, coldest month is January and wettest month is May.
