Old Saybrook, one of the oldest towns in Connecticut, started as a sovereign colony under the name Saybrook Plantation. This coastal town is located in Middlesex County, at the west side of the mouth of the Connecticut River. Old Saybrook Historical Society takes an active part in the preservation of the town’s history. Hart House, one of the town’s valued historic houses, currently serves as the office of the society and is open to public.

Yale University traces its roots in this coastal town, and it had the name Collegiate School of Connecticut when it was first founded. The school was moved to New Haven, and it now carries the name Saybrook College of Yale University. The town uses the school’s seal as a logo.
