About Old Lyme, CT - Happy to be your hometown Heating & Air Conditioning Contractor!
Old Lyme is a delightful, historic town and a popular summer resort located in the New London County. The town is situated on the east bank of the Connecticut River’s mouth. Residents and visitors occupy summer residences along the shoreline. During the 14 weeks of summer, the population of the town more than doubles, as people from all over flocks to Old Lyme to experience its famous public beach, Sound View, and the town’s numerous art offerings and attractions.
Main streets and even the country roads are dotted with superior examples of colonial architecture. In the early 20th century, Miss Florence Griswold opened her mansion to many well-known American Impressionist painters. This group of artists, recognized as the Lyme Art Colony, is what transformed the quiet Connecticut town into an art center of distinction. The Florence Griswold House still stands today and was converted into an art museum, the Florence Griswold Museum. Other exciting places to visit in Old Lyme are the First Congregational Church of Lyme, popular for being the favorite subject of the painters in the Lyme Art Colony and Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts, an accredited art school. There are also numerous art galleries, historic shops and houses in the area.
Old Lyme’s location at the lower part of the Connecticut River Valley, where the river connects with the Long Island Sound, falls in the humid subtropical climate zone. As a result, the town enjoys one of the mildest climates in Connecticut. Most of the time, while the northern part of the state is experiencing a winter storm with blizzard-like conditions, Old Lyme will just experience chilly rain.
