Hill-Stead Museum, a national historic landmark and site of the annual Sunken Garden Poetry Festival, holds a renowned collection of Impressionist paintings by Monet, Degas and Whistler, among others. Other historic sites are the two 18th-century cottages and the Old Stone Schoolhouse, all managed by the Farmington Historical Society, the Stanley-Whitman House, a museum owned and managed by the Farmington Village Green and Library Association and the Pequabuck Bridge, one of the oldest masonry bridges in Connecticut. Farmington is also home to Miss Porter’s School, one of the most selective college preparatory schools for girls. Jacqueline Kennedy and members of the Rockefeller, Bush and Vanderbilt families are alumni of the school.
