Located in the heart of Connecticut, just right outside of Hartford, is the thriving residential town of Cromwell. Named after the Lord Protector of England, Oliver Cromwell, this town in Middlesex County is a popular destination for several annual events such as the Riverport Festival and Travelers Championship. Riverport Festival celebrates Cromwell’s connection to the Connecticut River and is celebrated with games, food and fireworks. Travelers Championship, held at the gorgeous Tournament Players Club at River Highlands, is an important event of the PGA Tour, which draws some of the biggest names in golf every year. Cromwell also boasts of great recreation options, such as wildlife observation and canoeing at the Connecticut River and several other activities offered by parks like Pierson Park and Riverport Park. Cromwell also has outstanding community services and an historic downtown. Main Street Historic District provides a glimpse of the past with its well-maintained historic homes. One of the many historic houses in Cromwell is the Sage-Kirby House, a private residence built in 1815. Also located in the district are two town greens, Memorial Green and Valour Green, and the Cromwell Historical Society.
Weather in Cromwell is similar to other New England towns. Springs are normally wet and cloudy. Summers can get a bit sticky and humid with the temperature reaching to the 80’s, but nothing a homemade ice cream or refreshing iced lemonade can remedy. Fall in Cromwell brings colorful foliage, thanks to thick deciduous trees scattered all over the town. Winters provide residents with a good amount of snow to enjoy winter activities, such as snow shoeing and sledding, among others. Winter temperatures can go down to the 20’s.
